Fujifilm X ambassador Ivan Joshua Loh did a skateboarding shoot to try out the new Fujifilm X-T2 camera. Accompanying him was the Profoto B1 Location Kit. Get inspired by his behind the scenes video.

Street photography is not necessarily something one would associate with flash. However, the portability and swiftness of the Profoto B1 Off-Camera Flash made it possible for commercial photographer Ivan Joshua Loh to bring his setup to a skateboard ramp in Singapore.

His mission was to showcase the new Fujifilm X-T2 in action. To match the speed and ease at which the skateboarders fly over the ramp he paired his new camera with his Profoto B1 Location Kit, a Profoto Air Remote, and the OCF Gel Starter Kit.

“Of course you could do a shoot like this with natural light, but then you become completely dependent on the light conditions at the location. But I don’t want to take any chances so I use flash to get more control over the light.”

“Because the B1s are so portable I have no qualms about working with the OCF lighting system on-location. In fact, it’s my Gold Standard lighting gear for location shoots.”

The set-up was easy and quick. The photographer put the B1s on light stands. To add some pop to the shot, he used the OCF Gel Starter Kit.

“I was pretty excited to try the color gels. I love how this new gel is cut to fit the holder perfectly. Such a pleasure to work with.”

As with any on-location shoot, having access to a power outlet can be tricky. With the cordless Profoto B1 Off-Camera Flash, Ivan did not need to worry about that. To be on the safe side he brought a spare battery per flash, something that turned out to be merely a precautionary matter since he only used about one third of the power.

Even though Ivan describes his style as quirky and is known for pitching peculiar ideas with surprise elements to his clients, he does not want to be surprised when on-location. With the Profoto Air Remote mounted on his Fujifilm X-T2 he could set and adjust the power on each flash.

“That makes my life a lot easier. I literally have all control on the tips of my fingers.”

And just like the skateboarders, not only did he have perfect control over what he was doing, but judging by his BTS video it looks like he had a lot of fun as well.
