Entwined is an experiential calendar that unleashes the possibilities of a creating a dream wedding.
Every moment is crafted to give you a glimpse of the journey through a dream wedding. Entwined was created with the vision to showcase the many possibilities of a dream destination wedding. The entire shoot was centred around wedding scenes keeping in mind the most luxurious possibility for every wedding event. Each scene is nuanced and focuses on major and minor items of importance.
The entire shoot is conceptualised and executed by Karthik Srinivasan with his team at Moonstruck Weddings on the premises of Radisson Blu Resort Temple Bay, Mahabalipuram in partnership with Wedding Vows.
Q: What is your inspiration to choose the wedding theme for the calendar series?
A: Every year I bring out a calendar, at least I have been doing so for 12 years now. Each year there is theme. My calendar last year was themed Once Upon a Time, where South Indian film celebrities were featured in popular Hollywood and fairy tale characters. This time I wanted to showcase the possibilities of a dream destination wedding and hence chose this theme. The shoot was planned visually to be in the same style as a fashion editorial. The set up and models are professional and show you the possibility of dream destination weddings in terms of décor, attire and presentation.
Q: What are some challenges faced on set during the shoot and how did you overcome them?
A: The entire shoot was done outdoors along the shores in Mahabalipuram at the Radisson Blu Temple Bay Resort. We were shooting on the beach where the wind is strong, and this tends to mess with the decor. Delicate items tend to get blown away. We were shooting with both natural light and mixed lighting. When the sunlight is low or too harsh, I had to opt for using the Profoto B10 to control the light. If you see one particular shot of a bride and groom in a suit and white gown, it was an early morning shot around 5:30 am, but since the sun wasn’t as bright as I had expected I had to use the B10 to get the perfect shot.
Q: Can you share with us your thought process before starting on a shoot like this?
A: This was a very elaborate shoot process that had many vendors and stakeholders involved. We had to coordinate models, décor, make-up artists, floral sets, stylists, jewellery, photography assistants, light assistants, and many more people to coordinate every single scene. There was a lot of pre-planning since our shoot was scheduled across 4 days with 3 different set-ups per day, so a total of 12 different shoot possibilities. So, the thought process and the planning had to be perfect with a minute-by-minute schedule, to ensure success. My 15 years of experience being an advertising photographer came in handy.
Q: How do you think your work has evolved over time?
I have been a professional photographer for 15 years. When I started as a photographer we were still shooting with film. Today we have evolved to a different style of photography itself. Whenever I think of how the final output should be I always visual a billboard and detailing. Whether I am doing advertising, portrait, portfolio or wedding photography, I was always insistent detailing such as jewellery, make-up, clothes, etc. My style is influenced by the legends, my senior photographers and also the trends. I do take inputs from all these aspects to evolve my photography to match the times we live in.
