Softboxes in photography
With Profoto’s softboxes, you can create a soft light source, minimize harsh shadows, and let the natural look take center stage. It’s true to say we’ve got a softbox for every occasion, whether you’re working on the go or in the studio.
For each shape, we have a variety of sizes and optional accessories for even more precise light shaping. As a rule of thumb, the larger the softbox is in relation to the subject, the softer the light becomes. Choose from four different softbox shapes depending on your lighting requirements: Rectangular, square, octa or strip.
Rectangular softboxes suit most photography purposes as their shape makes them similar to a window light. Square softboxes are often used for head and shoulder portraits, as they provide an even, soft-edged and flattering light on all sides that seems to wrap around the subject.
Octa softboxes are also commonly used for portrait photography thanks to their circle-like shape that generates an attractive and natural-looking catch light in the subject’s eye. Strip softboxes are great as rim lights and for creating long and perfectly even highlights with soft edges.
