How to create broad lighting

Broad lighting is when the subject’s face is turned so that the light hits the broader side of the face. And with harder light, more contrast and deeper shadows, broad light can be used to add more drama to a portrait. Here's how to create the look yourself.

Step 1: Mount the OCF Magnum Reflector to a Profoto D2 or other Profoto flash.

Step 2: Attach a Profoto Air Remote (or Profoto Connect) to your camera.

Step 3: Place your Profoto D2 on the side which would light up the broader side and take your picture.

Tip
For a softer light, keep the position but change your modifier to a softbox or an umbrella.
