  • Flash tube died after 2.5 years

    I love this flash but for the price point it’s insane the flash tube needed replacing after under three years. My canon flashes lasted over a decade.

  • Good, but not perfect

    On the plus side, flash is well built, sturdy, quick to recharge and I love the practicality of the Li-ion battery. It's also beautifully designed. On the minus side, it's not 100% compatible with my Nikon cameras. While TTL works, the camera in Av mode gets locked into 1/60s exposure with base-ISO value, ignoring my other settings and producing underexposed backgrounds. (For comparison, a fully compatible Nikon flash will respect the set shutter limit and raise the ISO to properly expose both the background and foreground). This requires manual override via settings which increases the mental load under demanding circumstances (of event and wedding photography), and can also lead to blown-out images in certain conditions when the flash is working at its minimum output on close distance. Finally, I find it very hard to digest that such an expensive flash unit doesn't come with basic color-correction filters (like flashes from Canon and Nikon costing fraction of the price), instead asking a ridiculous price to buy a basic orange filter to work in tungsten-lit environment. If I knew all of this in advance, I'm not sure I would have bought it for event photography.

  • Battery life isn't good

    The quality of the light this puts out is amazing and unmatched with my other soeedlites. The battery life however is awful. I had this on my camera less than two hours. I never went up to full power and battery drained almost entirely. Luckily I had my back ups and was able to finish the job. I understand I should have backup batteries but for a new battery to die before 100 shots at 1/4 power is a little ridiculous.

  • Worthwhile Investment

    One of the best purchases I've made. I don't have a great deal of experience with different OCF units but this one is by far the easiest to use and best performer of any I've ever used. It is on the expensive side but worth every penny from a quality and reliability point. The fact I can easily tie it in with my Profoto D2 and A10x units is an added bonus, as is the fact I no longer have to deal with carrying a massive supply of AA batteries all the time. If you can muster the courage to spend the money you will have gear that will outperform most competitors and will last you for a good long time

  • Love the Light. Needs a few Tweaks!

    I love the light it produces and the ease of using the dial to change the output and access the menu, etc. One problem is the mounts on all five flashes I have purchased cracked mounts and needed replacements. Also, the attachments need gaff tape to stay attached during use. The magnets are not strong enough to hold them.

  • Profoto A10 and Profoto Softboxes with Click system

    I recently decided to sell all my Canon EL1 speedlights and upgrade to the Pro foto system. This is the only system where you can use your speedlights , off camera , with a professional softbox instead of using an umbrella. With the Profoto A10 , I am much more able to direct my light. The set up is very easy and super fast .With the click system of the Profoto A10 and the Profoto softbox- it takes only a few seconds to open the softbox and attach or detach the speedlight from the Softbox. The entire system is super light, compact and easy to transport. It is very strong and and it also looks so much more professional than white umbrellas.

    Lightweight, compact, combined with a softbox click, I carried out a one-day shoot (2 batt) where my B10, B1 & B2 remained stored. I already love it like I've always had it. I can't wait for me to have a second one (or an A2) and for the range of softbox clicks to multiply...

  • With Sony it won’t work

    I have bought the flash to Sony, and it doesn’t work. Three times the flash shoe broke and that is simply the worst system you can buy! Look at Godox and copy the system from them. They don’t break.

The Profoto A1 is designed with light shaping capabilities; it has a unique round head with a soft, smooth fall-off that makes it easy to create a natural and beautiful light. The A1 also offers a built-in LED modeling light that makes it easy to set the light and understand how light and shadows work together.
