How to create short lighting

Short lighting is when the light is placed so that it hits the shorter side of the face. A very common light pattern in movies - and also one of Hannah Couzens' favorites. Here are her two steps on how to create it yourself.

Step 1: Mount an OCF Softbox to the Profoto B10 to get a soft light on the model.

Step 2: Place the Profoto B10 on the side of your model so that the light will hit the shorter side of the face. You want to light the side of the face which is furthest from the camera.

Tip
If you find that the shadows are too intense, a reflector can be used to bounce some light back on to the face. This will maintain the structure of the short light pattern but will reduce the contrast.
